Second painting based on Samuel Taylor Coleridge's poem "Kubla Kahn." The poem is the highly sexual expression of desires of a young man who was in love with Wadsworth's sister Dorothy. High on laudanum, he was interrupted by a postman, resulting in the poem remaining "a fragment." This refers to the similar sections of the poem that refer to the "Caverns measureless to man" where the sacred river, Alph, "sank in tumult down to a sunless sea..." The entire painting is done in shades of green, including the very dark almost black greens, and mixtures such as phalo-turquoise and yellow greens. No color is without green
