About The Artwork

Washi paper is a refined and complex iconic material handmade in Japan, with textures, depth, and an inexplicable aura! My colors are mixed using a centuries-old color mixing techniques first developed by Monks to portray the "Blush" on their highly venerated Cherry Blossoms. Commissions and collaborations welcomed. All of my art (yours too) can be transformed into New Zealand wool and silk heirloom quality custom handmade rugs by our Master Weavers

Jan Sullivan Fowler is a contemporary Artist working in Japanese handmade Washi paper and acrylics to create paintings with a unique flowing form. JSF Studios exemplifies "Life as Art". The Village of Elm Grove, Wisconsin was the perfect place for me to grow up doing art with my Mom(Kay Sullivan). I had received my degree in Fine Art from Milwaukee School of Art in the 70's, when Mom discovered this new mode of expression, Japanese handmade "Washi paper" and acrylics. My style has been referred to as "a new genre of Abstract/Modern", combining the clear ethereal with the contemplative aspects that provide a unifying and calming feeling.(you can see more work at www.JSFStudios.com) The natural fibers of Washi visually float, and add a depth that is unachievable without. I'm featured in Luxe Interiors+Design in the Deign Resource center.
