About The Artwork

I painted the swan as a female symbol. It represents intuition and grace, so the goddesses of aphrodite and artemis were occasionally in his company. But also, swan is the bird of purity. It shows purification, the purification that follows after getting out of the dirt and clutter of thoughts and feelings. The psyche must be washed away from low passions and urges, from its attachment to the perishable in order to receive the power of the spirit. Fallen swan means that she fallen again...

My name is Dijana Čović, a Croatian oil painter and sculptor from Zagreb. I needed an escape from my reality and my love for art awoke me. I started painting manically. Art made me freely breathe again, and sometimes it is like an addiction.. I like to paint in oil, acrylic and sometimes watercolors usually on cotton or linen canvas. I like big canvases. Using oil I usually evoke the realism of portraits, and with palette knives I evoke the abstraction of shapes, lines and enhance the rhythmicity of the painting. I am painting mostly in the manner of abstract realism, contrasting two seemingly incompatible concepts, abstract art and realistic art. Abstract art does not refer to real objects. By abstract use of a lines, shapes, colors, texture and pattern, I create movement, give rhythm, evoke emotions. Realism tries to capture moments from real life and time or the personality of individuals or nature that resemble real life. I am looking for a balance of values of size and shape, lines and colors. I am focused on design elements and principles to visually express feelings, thoughts and my own experiences. Focusing to create a balance of values and sizes or shapes and lines. Painting is like beautiful music to me, if I were to put myself in genres, my painting is pure, good, soul funk, r&b and blues.
