The 2012 curatorial project "Mausoleum Renaissance" showcased "German and Italian Revolutionaries" for the first time at the "Ya Gretera" Gallery in Kiev, Ukraine. This painting was based on a post-war socialist realism copy painting from the 1960-1970s, produced at the Odessa Branch of the Artists' Union of the USSR Art Fund Combine. To further explore the substitution of ideas and investigate the historical events of the time, the ECCA “Tea Factory” young artists reinvented and changed the "neo-classicist" and "primitivist" retrostyle art pieces of the 1960s and 1970s. Contrary to popular belief, the artists' approach was not meant to mock the Socialist era, but rather to study and understand it. The definition of correct style for Socialist Realism was strictly enforced, particularly during the post-war years, known as the "Zdanov era". This dogma left very little room for artistic exploration, prohibiting the open acknowledgement of alternative art-historical models. This is according to Susan Reid's research in The "art memory": retrospectivism in Soviet painting of the Breznev era, Art of the Soviets, 1917-1992.
