About The Artwork
Icon of the Descent into Hell. The basis is the icon of Andrei Rublev. The Victory over Death icon is painted in the traditional canonical Old Russian style. It is made according to ancient technologies. The painting was done with many thin layers using natural pigments and egg emulsion. The board is covered with linen and washed chalk, and animal glue is used here. The coating is called "gesso". Linden board, well dried, is the basis for painting. On the reverse side of the board are two oak veneers. Sheet gold is used in the icon. Upon completion of the painting, the icon is covered with a layer of varnish and a protective layer of varnish. The back side of the board is covered with an antibacterial protective coating. The year the icon was painted is 2011.
