About The Artwork

“Let there be no boundaries. When you lose all sense of self, the bonds of a thousand chains will vanish. Lose yourself completely, return to the root of the root of your own soul” - Rumi Drawing inspiration from this quote by the famous 13th-centuary Persian Poet, Rumi, my ongoing series “Let It Flow” is the genesis of the long therapeutic process of finding myself in the madness around me. This is a “confinement” series, as are most of my 2020 and 2021 works and is specifically close to my heart as it embodies the true spirit of rediscovering myself. I found myself experimenting a lot in this series, trying out newer mediums, styles and color combinations which are uncharacteristic to me but so important for emotional release. I have usually been very conscious in choosing the color palette for my works but for this series, I just let it flow. I have used colors that have made me feel both vulnerable and empowered. This Artwork is made with Acrylic heavy body paint, texture and mixed mediums and gold powder and leaves. It comes to you varnished, signed and ready to hang.

Creating an alternate place with what the “heart” sees. The eyes see landscapes of green mountains, blue seas, colorful city lights and concrete structures. The heart sees fragrances, sensations, light and emotions. My story starts from there. Life interspersed with changing scenario from the picturesque, Assam, place of my birth, through the years to the city life of Bangalore, Mumbai & Delhi and now ultimately finding myself amidst the quiet, warm sandy beaches of Sri Lanka, the heart yearns to create a space which is just mine. It is a world which just sits there without being judged by rules of color and norms and slowly reveals itself on my blank canvas speaking to me in countless possible ways. I have been a conformist for major part of my adult life bound by “societal” norms, so abstraction on my blank canvas is something which speaks to me in leaps and bounds. It comes like a breath of fresh air, breaking the chains of conformity and giving my emotions the wings, it needs. It confirms the existence of free flow and spontaneity not just in my nature but now in my actions making it my voice of expression. With no formal training in art, experimentation and self-study have become my genesis. My experiments have led me to work with many mediums like acrylics, ink, structure paste, charcoal, retardar, home found objects and make them my own in a special way. My choice of limited colour palette for series is another such experiment to bring out the variety and depth to which each color interacts with other and the extent to which it can stretch to it’s own limits. I am highly influenced by dichotomies in life like the polarity of light & dark, of movement & stillness and such competing opposite forces and am instantly feels drawn to them. It is intriguing to realize that more often than not, I have an emotional response to such surroundings and ideas. My Abstract works are a representational outcome of such duplicities. I like to work on both small and large canvases. Both have their own challenges. However, it is the large ones that really excite and propel me into unleashing my restrained passion. Being highly influenced with the works of my favorite mid-century abstract Artist Gerard Richter, I don’t want to tie myself down to any style, subject or medium. Hence, my art is evolving, and it will lead to newer things in the future. But for now, abstraction and impressionism are my weave.
