About The Artwork

I studied and worked in Galway when I was younger. Every part of Ireland has its own character. West Galway, Connemara, is associated with granite hills and mountains separated by expanses of heather covered bog-land and dotted with small lakes and streams. This 'pass' over the mountains has connected ancient kingdoms for Millenia. Mám Éan translates as ‘The Pass of the Birds’. In ancient times it was associated with Druids. When Christianity arrived it was adopted by the new faith and a statue of Saint Patrick welcomes the pilgrims today. I walked this hill last year with my father who will soon be 88. The stairs are now his mountain but his mind is still young and he reminds me of a druid when he talks about our Celtic past and his ancient language. Dramatic skies with dark clouds lined with gold are typical in this land where heavy rain has just passed or is on its way.

I was born in Sligo, Ireland in 1967. I now live with my family in South Bohemia, Czech but I also return regularly to Sligo to be with my father and to enjoy the Atlantic coastline. I paint in both locations. I have worked in over 30 countries overseas mostly in challenging emergency and humanitarian environments. I have had discs removed in my neck and lower back and due to nerve issues I must now paint with my right wrist and arm in a fixed brace. But painting is my physical and mental therapy and it gives me much joy to share my art with you.
