Mordaza Party is a reaction to the sentencing of a rap artist in Spain called, Valtonyc. He was sentenced to three years and six months for his words in a rap song. You may agree or not with his words but he has the right to express his anger and feeling to what he thinks is an unjust society. I had the experience of having a painting censored by the Mayor of Alaior a town in Menorca, Spain and it made me more active for the right to express. I like to use irony, humour and stupidity, this comic image is a reflection of our comic world we live in. Spain has a law called " La Ley Mordazo", a law made to protects religions and the police, when all our rights are already protected by laws as equals. Special laws that restrict the right of expression are DANGEROUS. In the painting there are illustrated mentions to tolerance, expression, equality, compassion, liberty and community, Franco, who was a dictator in Spain’s till the mid 70’s, bullfighters and religion, corruption and the question: do words kill..?. I have done a few paintings with this simple, comic, naive style.

Born Glasgow 1969, I was brought up between Scotland and Spain and my family home was a gallery, “Na Fraix” in Es Migjorn, Menorca. Before going to study in London (1987 to 1991) I painted cloths, clothes and exhibited. In 1992, back in Menorca, I started to do setups, installations and designs in airports, bars, streets, shops, discotheques, councils etc., always with an artistic creative aspect and in public places, sometimes I did installations without permission and didn’t sign them, keeping them anonymous. In 2017 one of my paintings was censured in an exhibition in Alaior, Menorca, which opened my eyes to the power, importance and possibilities of transmitting a message with art.
