About The Artwork

"Necklace", cycle "We Are" Necklaces are one of the oldest traditional jewelry in Ukraine, known since the Paleolithic, which performed two functions - decorative and protective. First of all, the necklace was a protection - a talisman against the evil eye, evil people and spirits. Traditionally, necklaces consisted of coral threads, mother-of-pearl and glass beads and, depending on the capabilities of their owner, were complemented by dukach, lunnitsa, zhardy, ducats, patsyorky, shelest, pletinky and other ornaments, each of which carried a certain meaning. Coral beads, which were called the "wise necklace", were the most popular jewelry for Ukrainian women. The richer the girl was, the more threads with beads adorned her neck. It was believed that a coral necklace could warn of disease: if it darkens - health problems will not take long. Lunnitsa brings happiness in love, women's health, strong family, saves from female infertility, reveals talents in the future baby, helps to live a long, happy life, to preserve beauty until old age (elastic skin, silky hair without signs of gray hair), to learn promotes good deeds, strengthens faith in a bright future, protects against negative influences. Balamuty - mother of pearl beads - otherwise called "white troublemakers." They personified beauty, innocence and were designed to protect girls from unnecessary male attention. Ducats are coins strung on a thread that could be intertwined with bugles or beads. This was one of the most expensive breast ornaments, as it was made from real coins. The presence of this jewelry emphasized the status of their owner. Now our ethnic jewelry is not just a modern trend, it is a way of identification, awakening genetic memory and understanding the deep and sacred meaning inherent in them by our ancestors, what they bring to their owners. Cycle «We Are» What were We? What will We be? What Are We? This series is dedicated to defining the identification of the Ukrainian people, understanding what is inherent in us at the genetic level, what we use absolutely unconsciously to preserve our identity, which helps, protects and supports us, which makes us unique. Once disappearing, our distant ancestors left us a powerful energy potential of knowledge, which is now stored in our genetic memory and, as a reminder, in artifacts in the form of sacred symbols. This knowledge is important and relevant for each of us today, because it is based on the relationship between man and nature. They can be used as a tool for improvement, whereby everyone has the opportunity to experience the spiritual world, as well as to know the meaning of their arrival in this world. The personality of each person gets a chance to spiritually transform, which means that space and society will be transformed together with him. Sacred knowledge gives a person the strength to maintain a very fragile balance of good and evil in our modern complex world. They provide spiritual assistance and provide a chance to build a civilization in which spiritual values prevail.
