Sunset in big apple Original abstract painting by Alina O'Dwyer. New York City. What is the first mental association that comes to mind when you think about it? Manhattan from a famous TV show or the financial district, with men in expensive suits. The little slice of Bohemia called Soho, where all the creative thinkers, artists, and such likeminded people inhabit? Perhaps Brooklyn springs to mind? Everyone has their favorite slice of New York. When I decided to do this painting, I was inspired by a long warm summer evening in NYC, when you can have Manhattan in your glass and enjoy the sunset on the city skyline. This painting perfectly reflects in itself warm and cold colors , so that you can see visualize and experience what sunset brings to the city. How the sun is reflecting from the cold skyscrapers with a blue shade, even if we expect to see sunset always in warm colors. This unusual mix is all about the Big Apple – glam and poverty, dark and white, pairs of opposites, which are identical in nature, only separated by degree. A metropolis which has been immortalized in many movies and is still a dream for many people. You can also see the iconic Brooklyn bridge and the commanding view to Manhattan across the East River, sun going down over the skyscrapers, leaving a glistening trail across the water. I used paints with different techniques , as well as a pallet knife to make this painting more structural and make the buildings look more voluminous. The size is 120 by 90 cm , depth is 2 cm so painting will perfectly suit a large wall and exactly will become the center piece of your modern interior. This painting is lacquered using high quality gallery grade lacquer. The piece is painted around the edges to compliment the art work and doesn't need framing.
