Simeon Dermentzidis was born in Sidirokastro, Serre, North Greece, in 1951. In 1956 he came to Thessaloniki. At the age of 11 years, he was awarded for one of his drawings. When he was 13 years old he started to experiment with paints and brushes, and at his 18 years he gained his first atelier, and he works as a professional artist from then on. During 1970-1972 he studied design, taking the scholarship, at the Technical School "DEMOKRITUS", Thessaloniki. He granted the diploma of Foreman Designer. He awarded with the first scholarship of the school, for further education in Vienna, Austria, for four years but he refused it, for family reasons. (His older brother Theo was killed in an accident). From 1982 until today he teaches painting, stained glass and design in High Technical Education and Seminars. From 1987 he lives and works in Katerini, North Greece. He was president (8 years) of the Society of Artists of Fine Arts of Pieria. He was, for several years, member of the Association of Professional Artists of Thessaloniki and North Greece. He is a member of painting juries for many years. Paintings of him are at many public buildings, such as at the Presidential Palace of Greek Democracy, the City Halls of Tsatsak, Serbia; of Moosburg, Austria; of Maintal, Frankfurt, Germany. Also at private collections. For over 20 years he has painted giant posters for conventions in many cities in Greece and made the stage-scenery in performances. Among the wider spectrum of art, Simon works also with many materials in other territories of art, such as design, decorations, engraved and fused glass with airbrushing, stained glass and metals (copper and iron), gypsum plaster. An extensive biography of the artist there is at the five volumes History of Macedonia, a publication of General Hellenic Line,(G.H.L.). AWARDS - SCHOLARSHIPS 1963: 1st award in painting at the Elementary School. 1970-1972: 1st scholarship of Technical School "DEMOCRITUS", in design. 1971: 1st award in design. 1972: 1st general scholarship in design for four years in Vienna, Austria. He refused it. 1979: Award of Association of Greek Writers. 2002: Honourable plate of Municipality of Katerini, Gr. 2008: Copper Medal and Honourable Diploma of Society of Fine Arts of Serre, Greece.
