The intersection of light, water and color create an interesting backdrop to my work. Bold vibrant and saturated colors are a dominate characteristic coupled with the white spaces left behind, Layers of light and color are the foundation for all of the Sarasota Series. For me, nature provides inspiration through its contrasts, patterns, colors and textures. I reach toward a loose yet bold style that uses saturated color as a base for the representational parts of the composition. The bright white of the paper itself is used as a part of the color palette and the negative spaces left after the stroke work is laid down. This piece is fresh and bold, modern and timeless. There are twelve individual pieces created to represent various flora, fauna and experiences around the Sarasota area along the Gulf of Mexico. In this piece, #11 Race Day the brilliant colorful sails punctuate the aqua water and the crystal blue of the sky. Dazzling light bounces off the cerulean waters. Light intertwines with the composition of the sails, sailboats and the banyan trees in the foreground. The piece has movement and energy that come with being on the water. Tropical vibes are underscored by the colors and the theme.
