young girl lays on her bed reading, surrounded by her collection of her favorite banned books in a abstract portrait painted in digital oils in a rainbow of colors on a textured canvas. The current uptick in the effort to ban books on the part of conservatives in the United States is not an accident. They need to keep their constituents ignorant and uneducated to retain power because educated, smart constituents won't vote for them. The Pew Research Center has found "Highly educated adults, particularly those who have attended graduate school, are far more likely than those with less education to take predominantly liberal positions across a range of political values." Smart, educated people do not vote Republican and smart, educated people don't ban books. Be smart. The Brooklyn Public Library has created the Books Unbanned initiative to ensure that banned books are available to students worldwide. You can find more information about their fabulous initiative at https://www.bklynlibrary.org/books-unbanned.

My mind lives in a rather strange world of its own, in a state which I tend to refer to as "delightfully twisted." Through my art, which I am vehemently determined to continue to create with as little outside influence as possible, I work to interpret the concepts my mind creates in a moment-by moment barrage of ideas. Though my work manifests itself in many different ways, from the delicate transparency of digital watercolor, to the no-holds-barred starkness of noir photography, to even the fanciful abstract-turned-conceptual properties of my fractal art, the undercurrent that binds them all is my love of surrealism. I prefer the worlds my mind creates to the one in which I live, and though I create all my art to please myself as a rule, nothing thrills me more than when it speaks to someone else as it does me.
