About The Artwork
Ripple Effect presents a series of abstract paintings, that work collectively to capture and present to the viewer the sea essence, through aesthetics, materiality, and display. This series of artworks presents a sequence of my thoughts and reactions towards a long withdraw from the sea, existing as a means of escape, providing a sense of freedom, calmness and rejuvenation for me. Deriving from the imposing of quarantine in Cyprus due to the effects of a pandemic, the sudden changes in the accessibility of surroundings and more specifically the absence of the sea, as a visual space and experience, sparked a ripple effect of vast emotions and personal reflections translated within a visual narrative.

I use motifs in the landscape and landscape as starting points for highly personal dialogues with the natural world. My work is characterised by richly textured surfaces which evoke the dynamics of the unfettered motion of the sea and the brooding power and mystery of the landscape. These transitory evocative images are not representational however but seek instead to elicit the sensations, memories and wonder associated with our experiences and encounters with raw nature. My abstract works encompass a wide range of mixed media techniques including the use of sand, vitro, acrylic and oil, varnish, collage and found materials.
