About The Artwork

The "Rose Garden of the Philosophers" is an allegorical painting inspired by the famous eponymous engraving taken from the book "Atalante Fugitive" by the alchemist Michael Maier. The work describes the journey of a character heading towards a door symbolizing a transition to a higher state of consciousness. Three angels, two women and a wolf surround this character, representing deities and archetypes that guide his quest. The technique of painting in oil and pencil on canvas paper gives the work a contemporary aesthetic of neoclassical inspiration. The artist integrates this painting into an in-depth reflection on human existence and our relationship with the Universe. The "Rose Garden of the Philosophers" thus embodies an initiatory journey through allegory, symbols and archetypes, inviting a deeper understanding of oneself and the quest for spiritual awakening. This iconic creation connects the work of Chrice MAYOUMA to the philosophical and spiritual tradition, offering a deep aesthetic and intellectual experience.

Chrice MAYOUMA, contemporary French painter, born in Brazzaville in Congo, is a self-taught artist passionate about painting and drawing since childhood. His artistic approach is inspired by his personal history, marked by the horrors of the civil wars that shook his country in the 90s. At the age of 12, Chrise arrived in France, carrying with him a deep reflection on the human being and his place in the universe. This is how he decides to take his brushes to paint only what is most positive in Man, claiming an optimistic and deeply humanist art. His work is an ode to the beauty of nature, which he seeks to safeguard through his paintings. Chrice MAYOUMA's paintings bear witness to great artistic sensitivity and deep reflection on the human condition. Through a gallery of universal, inspiring and committed characters, he integrates the image of Man in its most natural part, in order to exalt the freedom of being. His paintings testify to a strong presence of a resplendent ecosystem, where nature is at the center of everything. His artistic style is both inspired by neoclassicism and naive art, with a very personal figurative approach. Chrice works the splendor and depth of pigments with assortments of oil paint and charcoal, creating stark contrasts and bursts of color that highlight topics of peace, understanding one another, as well as 'ecology. Each plastic work of Chrice MAYOUMA is an invitation to transcendence and to the discovery of the beauty that hides in each of us.
