About The Artwork

The painting captures the moment when Shree Dhandhan Muni attains to keval gyan (omniscience). The Muni is Son of Lord Krishna, and is living difficult life as a Jain ascetic. He is unable to get nirdosh (pious) gochari (bhiksha). He has not had food from last four days. With a view to procure nirdosh gochari he goes to a house of a halwai (sweet maker). The sweet maker gives ladoos full of saffron to Muni because he knows that Muni is son of Lord Krishna. And hence again the attempt to procure pious bhiksha goes in vain. On learning from his Guru that again on fifth day he has not been able to get nirdosh gochari, Muni remains unaffected and mixes the ladoos with dust and refrains from eating them. In this moment of pure sacrifice, he attains to keval gyan.

I am Swati Parikh, 47, a Software Developer overtaken by an artist within. I achieved my PGDIP in Software Development from University of Huddersfield, UK, and practiced in this field for about 15 years. However, I realized that my real goal in life is perfecting my inner self; art is the reason for my existence and, ever since my realization, I have dedicated myself entirely to pursuing this endeavor. I mainly work on portraying teachings of Jainism featuring human figures and nature in my very own semi abstract style. I also paint floral abstracts. Since 2011, Oil on canvas is my main medium of work. For a couple of years, I have also enjoyed working with natural dye on fabric too. I feel mauve to be a deeply mesmerising colour, but, my works are blends of soft multicolored strokes in many layers. I usually hit my canvas with a very minimal and straightforward approach while sketching the composition, and then love to create drama, mystery and beauty with a sense of sincerity during the color work. I am quite fragile in nature much like the phases of the moon, hence why the sensitivity often varies in my works. In a sense, all of my artworks are self-portraits reflecting particular moments.
