The park was created by Catherine de'Medici, the widow of King Henry II, as part of her new residence, the Tuileries Palace, in 1564. She commissioned an Italian architect and a French gardener to design a Renaissance-style garden with fountains, statues, and a labyrinth.The garden was also the scene of many historical events, such as the storming of the Tuileries Palace during the French Revolution, the coronation of Napoleon I, and the burning of the palace by the Paris Commune in 1871. The painting by contrasting between the naked and the clothed figures, create a dynamic composition that evokes the movement and diversity of the people.
