This piece was inspired by Extinction Rebellion and Disrupt Burrup Hub protests in Art Galleries here in Perth and elsewhere against fossil fuel extraction. It is a reponse to the interventions by activists spilling paint and other materials onto already existing works sometimes improving them. In particular it is a homage to local Activist Johanna Partykas' screenprint over a classic Australian outback painting Fredrick Mc Cubbins' "Down on his Luck" on which she stencilled the name of an Australian miner Woodside. I hope viewers will get the message which is a comment on the irony of needing fossil fuels to sustain life on earth while it destroys the environment .I have used motor oil as a medium to paint with tying the content to the means by which it is expressed. Logos of Multinationals are everywhere and I have used the most well known ones to cut across racial and ethnic barriers.
