"The Spirits of the Steppe" is the second painting in the series "Deep Radiance." The portrait of a woman is accompanied by the silhouettes of stone women, monumental sculptures of ancient nomadic peoples. These stone women, also known as Stone Bovans, were regarded by ancient people as protective idols. They appeared in the territory of Desht-i-Kipchak (steppes from the Irtish River to the Danube) around 4th to 2nd millennium BCE. Today, over two thousand of such statues remain. They were placed in specially constructed sanctuaries, usually on the summits of high mounds or hills. These sculptures often held vessels under their bellies, possibly containing sacred libations. War significantly damages historical landmarks, including the stone women. In September 2022, one of the nine statues was destroyed during shelling near Izyum. It is important to note the "Kam'iana Mohyla" reserve, where drawings from the Paleolithic era to the Middle Ages are also collected. This unique place gathers drawings within a small area, spanning a wide historical spectrum: from the late Paleolithic to the Middle Ages (20,000-16,000 BCE to the 11th-13th century CE). Today, this reserve is under occupation

I'm Kateryna Pysarenko, a Ukrainian artist. With a master's in graphic design from Kyiv, I've been in design scene for over a decade, specializing in crafting prints for clothing and tableware. In 2017, I made the jump from digital to traditional, immersing myself in watercolor. As an artist, I'm all about exploring the dance between the external and internal worlds.I am also showing peace in turbulent times and aiming to showcase the beauty of everyday life. Immigrating in 2022 also shifted my worldview and immersed me in exploring both Ukrainian culture and other ethnicities.
