I work in short series inspired by both profound and mundane experiences. My artwork is created by painting on glass and transferring the imprint to paper using a technique called Monotype. Each artwork is original and utterly unique. Each mark placed on paper is permanent, leaving no room for error and creating a sense of intimacy and exploration. Most of my work narrates my emotional and mental experiences. Painting acts as an educational guided discovery and exploration method. Sometimes, I create one composition and that becomes enough to let it all out and understand something. At other times, I explore ideas and experiences I’m going through via a short series of pieces. When I gather this momentum, I try to act fast as I know they these emotions won’t last forever. My work is often spontaneous. It is not pre-sketched or designed. I find that without strict boundaries I am able to create a finished product that is truly honest. After graduating from York University with a Bachelor of Arts, I continued my studies in classical painting at the Repin Academy of Fine Arts in Saint Petersburg as an apprentice. Although at first glance my style of work may seem anything but academic, I actively employ all the pillars of traditional school, with an emphasis on colour, harmony, and drawing.
