About The Artwork

This painting is inspired by the 15th century painter Rogier van der Weyden. I have erased Jesus and Virgin Mary from the setting of the original painting and added myself in it. The door to heaven has changed to the door to darkness. My intention is to express the frustration of searching for the ultimate being especially in the modern era where religion has given his seat to "spirituality". It seems that the idea of God is carved into our neurons and it's necessary for our survival. However, with regards to the dead end quest, I believe the search itself brings the good in us, not the acceptance of a fixed idea.

In 2019, Sherry quit her engineering job in Toronto, Canada in order to pursue her life-time interest, Art! She traveled through Canada, Europe, and Iran volunteering in farms and hostels while simultaneously polishing her artistic skills. In Iran, she started studying German by herself for a year and in November 2022, she landed in Berlin, which now she calls her beloved home! Sherry’s engineering background pushed her through exploring new forms of artistic practice, such as painting in virtual reality, learning basic modelling and animation in Cinema 4D, and digital painting. However, she usually uses them as a mean to widen her perspective in approaching new ideas. Sherry loves to read philosophy, literature pieces, and history. She loves to take long walks through cities and nature while observing her surroundings and losing her “I” in the moment!
