Plein air Painting Journey Cambodia 18.10. - 5.12. 2022 I walked the streets and jungles of Cambodia. I painted exotic atmosphere on over 100 plein-air paintings with inks and aquarelle on paper. I paint structures of moss and spills on the Angkor Wat temple walls, a Girl with a Fendi hat cutting Dragon fruits in Tuk Tuk, a man who fell on a motorbike and his wife washing his body at a meat selling stand, a grandma barbecuing meat on banana leaves on the street, argument with police, floating villages where is everything on the river - shop, church, restaurant… I painted bananas, mangoes, pomelos, and prayers to Buddha. I am a Czech painter living and working in the Finnish countryside. To do plein air painting is for me a way how to study and observe my models in a new, vibrant and intensive way. This never can happen when painting is based on photography material and created in studio. The plein air painting style became a natural part of my working process during traveling. It only takes seconds to take a photo, but the plein air painting catches the model situation differently. Atmospheric moisture and small droplets of night rain soak into the ink paintings. They are paintings capturing the momentary experience, the atmosphere caught by quick gestures...
