Ten scouts said "It's but a land of milk and honey", two others added "This land devours those who dwell on it". Both are right up to this day. I live in Israel, and the past two weeks were far from easy. Subconsciously, anxiety and fear manifested themselves in my paintings, thanks to my approach to the art of painting itself. I never know the end result, I specially refuse to make any attempts to control and just let my feelings and deepest thoughts lead my hand while I paint. All I really want is something beautiful to say, that's why I paint in a state of deep meditation, allowing my mind to take the lead, but doing so in between rocket strikes and air raid sirens has it's effect. Flowers turn into missile traces, undisturbed woods show the pulse of jet-propelled death, the light bulb which would light the darkness shields its core in a dome shape from the danger of the open sky, and an endlessly calm whale becomes the missile himself. It is hard to throw the war out of one's consciousness, even harder to throw it out of one's subconsciousness. The seeds have hatched, and despite the wish to find peace, they are here to stay.
