About The Artwork

Piece from ongoing "Song of the South" series. This body of work uses characters from the "Tales of Uncle Remus" to explore issues related to racism, poverty, addiction, religion, lust, greed, abuse, and other potentially traumatic universal social themes from a Southern perspective. This Uncle Remus study observes the stereotyped black male in our screwed up system. He becomes the storyteller and is greeted by the 'zippy-do-dah' bird from the Song of the South Disney film. The pink street marker paint marks him as a dispensable number in the legal system and the gold paint continues in the TWACK series here both as an allusion to stereotyped drug use and "bling" culture. The tar is painted as a symbol of humidity and suffocating oppression.
