About The Artwork
My city series stems from my background in urban design and my love for urban landscapes- Middle Eastern and Mediterranean towns in particular. My city, Amman, is often referred to as the “White City”, and as a child I wanted to colour each house a different colour, as if the city was a blank canvas. In soulful cities, there are so many charming little architectural details that one might fail to notice- especially in older neighbourhoods. Original painting is mixed media on canvas.

Nissa Raad (Fakhrelnissa Raad) is a Jordanian artist who was born in Amman in 1981. She graduated from Brown University in 2002 with a BA in history before receiving an MSc in urban development and design from UCL, London, in 2004. Greatly inspired by her late grandmother, the celebrated Turkish artist Fahrelnissa Zeid- rich textures, vibrant colors and bold lines are ubiquitous in Nissa's whimsical work which is inspired by both urban and natural environments. She has had several sold out exhibitions in Amman and Istanbul, and has participated in numerous group exhibitions and fairs both locally and internationally.
