“The waves broke and spread their waters swiftly over the shore. One after another they massed themselves and fell; the spray tossed itself back with the energy of their fall. The waves were steeped deep-blue save for a pattern of diamond-pointed light on their backs which rippled as the backs of great horses ripple with muscles as they move. The waves fell; withdrew and fell again, like the thud of a great beast stamping.” ― Quote from Virginia Woolf, The Waves Every time I walk on the beach, I am fascinated by the forming of the waves, so I established this series of paintings. The Voices of Tides series based on the view of Isle of Palms beach, Charleston. These works emphasize the elements that form the waves I have found in the region: the quality of light, color-contrast, waterlines and natural flowing shapes of the waves. Each work in the series explores the way to build the texture of water. This artwork is the First in the series.

Since childhood, drawing brought Bingyu to a world with infinite possibilities and creative joy. She graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts (Beijing, China) with a master’s degree in urban design. In 2004, Bingyu moved to the US with her husband. While living in the US, she continued to study 17-18th century techniques and paint still-life pieces, and developed a deep affection for nature motifs. Her desire to create art as a full-time profession led her to resign her current job to pursue a career in the arts. Inspired by Kaii Higashiyama’s harmonious and Georgia O’Keeffe’s innovative impressionist images that challenged perceptions, Andrew Wyeth and Alex Colville’s narrative style, her landscape paintings try to create an intimate experience while capturing a prominent moment. While living in the US, she developed a love for exploration of the unknown and traveling across the country with her husband and daughter. She enjoys adapting to different lifestyles and culture and have photographed many moments which deeply touched her. Back in the studio she edited and recreated the landscape she captured and distilled through attention and consideration so that the composition, surface, and colors are more interesting and evocative. Her paintings have weight and simplicity. Most of the time, she starts her paintings with thinned-out oil paint and integrate a combination of deliberate layers and flat minimal-layered surfaces. She enjoys using vibrant colors and brushstrokes to show serenity. These images depict emotion, mood, and sensation. They celebrate the simple beauty and vitality of the landscape. Painting these images is an act of contemplation that she hopes produce a dimension of mystery to the pictorial narrative with full senses and share meticulous aesthetics.
