The motive is called "Church in East Prussia". East Prussia is old German territory an belongs since WW II to Russia. This motive is one of the most impressive of this series: It unites darkness (inside the church) an brightness (outside the church, but coming in). The church is totally empty because the Russians took everything away. So you are in the midst of an empty but sacred place – longing for the light. This photograph was taken in 1995. I used a Fuji Chrome Provia film (35mm). The blue tone derives from a blue filter and is not digitally created. This motive was shown in several exhibitions and has found many friends. The Mystical Series is a conceptual photo series that aims to show, through special places, artworks and buildings in as many different countries as possible, that there is an “invisible” thread uniting all the peoples of the earth – a kind of archetype that calls to mind the same associations for everyone of a primal spiritual connection and yearning. The photographs of the series span a cross-cultural network that brings people across the globe together through the individual links, the photographs. The blue tone common to all the photographs underscores this sense and is an additional thread – in an “incredible, almost religious blue, reminiscent of the famous series of paintings by Yves Klein” (German newspaper Berliner Zeitung, 23 October 2012).
