About The Artwork
This photograph is a digital copy of an image from the Alldis family photographs. I have remastered it here and displayed it because it represents a important part of my childhood inspiration. Frank and Alice Alldis loved the painted desert and wanted it preserved for posterity, and Frank loved his Chrysler cars. I have posted this photograph next to pictures of the painted desert that I took this year. This lonely car out on highway 66 in 1938 illustrates the important connection between my childhood home artistic culture, and sentiment, and the development of my own artwork and passion for conservation.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
