Ghosts of pre-revolutionary times haunt the roads of Cuba: American classic cars, old trucks, coaches and motorbikes. Many of the cars function as private vehicles, taxis, or colectivos (local shared taxis). In various states of repair, from bare-bone rusting and much-filled chassis to miraculously restored show-room pristine, they have pride of place on the streets which frequently serve as make-shift open-air repair shops. Ingenuity has kept these status symbols on the road since the 1950s and some 60 years on they are still going strong. From the series 'On the Road, Cuba' 2012, this image was taken in the back streets of the Spanish colonial settlement of Trinidad, in the central province of Sancti Spiritus. 250 gsm photographic archive paper.
