Dayburner #6731 (overture) - Limited Edition of 1 Print

Did you know that in New York's Central Park the lampposts are numbered to reference the larger city grid? If you are lost, for example, all you need to do is get the number from the nearest lamppost to orient yourself. This is #6731, which means it is near or parellel with 67th street on the west side of the park because it ends in an odd number. Birdwatchers communicate with each other through a log book kept in the Boathouse. The lamppost numbers are used to convey location of their sightings. I photographed these for years, collecting nearly 600 lampposts, recording the number and the plastic, vintage camera I used at the time. I only photographed Dayburners, the word the park uses to describe bulbs that were on during the day because the timers were off or for other park related reasons.
