About The Artwork
From the series Transformation inspired by Paramahansa Yogananda's book "Autobiography of a Yogi" and shot in the Royal National Park south of Sydney, the world's second National Park. The series maps the journey of spiritual awakening from darkness to light as outlined in the book. Here we are at the initiation stage where the aspirant has started to open to the light (symbolically they are holding a cross that is reflecting the sun) and the layers of rock represent the shadow layers of the psyche with the cirrus clouds heralding the dynamic changes of the awakening. A complex and symbolic psychological image shot with a 5x4 Sinar camera.

I was born in Trinidad and Tobago and travelled all over the world with my parents before settling in The UK for my education. I went to Sherborne School and Reading University before moving to London to be a photographic assistant to many different photographers including Anthony Blake and Spencer Rowell. Then I moved to Australia to further my career in photography that is now 35 years long as a commercial and art photographer in Sydney. I have had several exhibitions including Transformation 1992, Lifeforce 1996, Sahaja 2000, and have completed new spiritual works, The Chakras, 2014 that are shown here on Saatchi Art. I now also teach photography with Alfonso Photo tours in Sydney. I have two websites, Chrisljonesphoto.com for commercial and sahajaprints.com for prints.
