About The Artwork

With this piece, I wanted to depict a modern, yet tribal version of Mother Nature/Gaia that is disappointed and heartbroken with the pollution of our oceans. In her jar, filled with seawater, she carries shells to represent the sea life and also plastic bags, which represents the pollution. The make-up was also used as a symbol of the circle of life and the divine feminine. In addition, to achieve the desired primordial yet modern look, I created the crown and top myself for this artwork. Being from one of the islands of the Azores, I have a big connection with the ocean and I am very aware of the impact its pollution has, not only on us humans, but all animal life. Even though what happens in the sea might seem distant from us and our daily lives, the fact is that it is as equally important as the destruction of our forests. -- This listing is for OPEN EDITIONS only. Limited editions and bigger sizes will be available on Saatchi soon. For any enquiries: Twitter: @AnaIsabel_Photo Instagram: @anaisabel.photographer Website: under construction
