I guess that down deep in my soul there is a strong connection to circus and its magic. I took my daughters to the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Blue Circus in Oakland in 1973. It was indeed the greatest show on earth. I wanted to hold on to that special evening with all of the circus magic and my young daughters with me, so took slide images with my hand held camera. I never dreamed that the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus could disappear. This is the first of several of these images of the bygone era of Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus that I captured on that magical night in Oakland California. Now I understand that the circus was much more than entertainment. It was a celebration of three dimensional reality. Somehow my blurry images made with my hand held camera captured an amazing light record of human and animal spirit. I miss it.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
