About The Artwork
In Yosemite National Park there are very beautiful trees. Our most famous are the Giant Sequoias. The Sierra Junipers do not get nearly the attention that the giant sequoias get. However, like the giant sequoias the sierra junipers are ancient and amazing in their individual character. This tree maybe over one thousand years old and indeed it never gave up! I was inspired to share its image and in a sense its amazing story of survival under the most extreme conditions.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
