About The Artwork

Silver-washed Fritillary, Argynnis paphia. Half profile. The image was part of a collection, Icarus which was exhibited in Foto Skoda in Febraury 2011. The 13 images were organized in a mosaic clock in varying sizes. This image was at 6pm or nadir point of the clock. It's the only vertical image of the group. Why? I can't tell you. But the clock is a funny thing because 12:00 is both noon and midnight, the point of transition, but we view the clock as top and bottom and 6 is halfway point of the clock. Maybe that is why there is only half cut- I don't know why, but it looked right and it fit very well. The dates given here are the dates I shot the images. I shoot raw and leave it unprocessed until the time I use the image. The date on the file tag is the date I shot it so I can find the raw data. With digital file, size is only a matter of demand, it's not a fixed thing, so the size listed here is the size reflected in Adobe. I think the original print on the wall was 30 x 45cm but with a 60MB file size it could have been much larger. Let's say the mosaic was slightly complicated involving three sizes and very careful placement for quite tight wall space, but when it was arranged, it was beautiful. The sizes were chosen so I could lay the group lineally or in a circle or in several different formats to create interesting pattern. If you were to lay the images out in a straight line, then this would be the center image and on both sides of it smaller ones. As a child I was fascinated by kaleidoscopes.
