This is one in a series of nature photographs with a saturated, film-like feel. Shallow depth of field has come to be a feature of Becca's work, and here the leaf's blurred outline gestures at the camouflage of the snake in its natural habitat: a fatal obscurity. "I have long been attracted to the snake as existential symbol, the long shadow in the grass. This specimen lays waiting, observing and observed, unaware of the strange perfection and fascination of its physical form at virtually every angle. In truth, it is very hard to take a bad photo of a snake." These are Giclée prints with 80-year archival ink printed on resin-coated Epson Semi Gloss paper. The semi gloss, flat surface lends the artwork a photographic feel, combined with the subtle painterly feel of a Giclée fine art print.
