Tørrfisk (102x102cm) Print - Limited Edition of 25

This image is one of my very old favourites from back when I was still studying photography. It was back in 1997 and I was back in Norway on holiday and had gone to visit a small town further out on the coast. The drying of fish in this fashion is an old tradition on Norway so it's not an unusual thing to see, whether nailed to a wall like this or on purposefully built racks. I found this one very striking however, on the side of a bright red boathouse down by the shore - which lent itself to a very impactful composition. Quite simplistic - almost minimalist - and exaggerated by the use of negative space - this suited the square format of my old trusted Bronica SQai 6x6 format camera perfectly. It was analogy shot on 120 format negative film - my favourite Fuji NPS - and then later digitalised. As it happens a large percentage of the Portuguese national dish "Bacalhau" or "Bacalao" is made from Norwegian dried cod (Tørrfisk) and when visiting Portugal I love to go to one of the local eateries/cafes for a Bacalhau - usually part of the menu of the day. A print of this image used to live in my commercial portfolios for many years and was always always very well liked, especially by graphic designers - probably because of its very graphic impact look. I then kind of forgot all about the image when creating limited edition print collections, so the re-discovering and preparing of it as an artwork now has been quite exciting and I hope you will like it. A signed print from a limited edition of 25. Printed with a white border to accommodate framing/mounting and the signature - the actual size of the printed image is 96.6 x 96.6 cm.
