About The Artwork

THE TREE OF LIFE This artwork belongs to my «Dreamscape» series and embodies the concept of strength, endurance, and longevity of nature. The significant olive tree portrayed in this artwork, stands witness to history having lived since the dawn of human civilization, still growing and producing olives, declared a world natural heritage in 1997. Scientists from the University of Crete have estimated this remarkable Olive Tree to be around 4,000 years old. As a symbol of peace and prosperity, the olive tree is a fundamental archetype often called the «Tree of Life». Rich in fruiting symbolize a mother who enriches her home with her children, the fruits of her love (Psalms 127: 3). In the Old Testament after the flood the dove returned to Noah's ark with an olive branch in its mouth, and according to an ancient tradition the biblical the «tree of life» amid the Garden of Eden, first described in chapter 2, verse 9 of the Book of Genesis, was an olive tree. The «Dreamscape» series is my way to explore life, nature, environmental concerns, and the world around me. THE PRODUCTION Limited Edition of 15. Hand signed and numbered by the artist. The artwork is an elaborated multilayered digital composition of many different photographs of the monumental Olive Tree of Crete and the Cretan seashore tide in winter which I have captured some years ago. Printed on musuem grade pigmented Giclée, supervised by the artist. Mounted on a 3mm lightweight aluminium substrate with aluminium sub-frame to add strength and rigidity. Ready to hang, with a floating effect, 2cm from the wall, the artwork has a clean, modern look that suits perfect any space, home or business. The artwork is also available in 120x120cm Limited Edition of 10 – museum grade giclée on paper.

Born and raised in Athens, I took up the camera in the early 1980s and a couple of years later I began my formal training in photography while studying Topography at The National Technical University of Athens (1983-1989). My work is motivated by an existential need to express myself and connect with others, and understand the many and often incompatible sides of the ego, in a journey of self-discovery and self-expression. My intention is to create work that facilitates intimacy with the viewer and encourages empathy. Since my first solo exhibition in 1988, my work has been presented in many group exhibitions and 7 solo shows and I have been awarded international awards and distinctions. I have published 3 photographic albums and 4 Artbooks. Some of my works are in public and private collections. Member of the Chamber of Fine Arts of Greece.
