About The Artwork

Wing fragment of a Four-spotted Chaser, Libellula quadrimaculata An image from a collection entitled Icarus that exhibited in Foto Skoda Prague February 2011. The group of 13 photos symbolized the myth of Icarus found in Ovid's Metamorphoses. Daedalus and his apprentice are trapped in a prison on an island. To escape, Daedalus fashions artificial wings. The flight ends in disaster as Icarus falls into the sea. Emerging dragonflies are vulnerable to attack as their wings develop. They are unable to escape attackers such as birds so along the river paths or ponds, there are often small bits of wings dropped by scavenging birds. Images were taken in natural light using a macro lens with an extension. The background is white paper.
