About The Artwork

This painting is an allegory representing the Peace, an atypical theme in my art. In ancient Greek mythology, Eirene is the daughter of Zeus and Themis, embodying the Peace. We often see the image of this Goddess recreated by the ancient artists as a woman carrying a child, Ploutos, who represents the wealth of the earth. In my work, Eirene has different colors of eyes which create some tension with the contrast between the blue and the red. The tears that come out of his eyes remind us of the jets of a fountain and suggests some associations of an expected conflict between two opposites who cannot overcome their differences. She wears a colorful tunic, but her figure is blending with the background of the painting. It is the nature with its abundance that humanity receives in the times of Peace. The image of the woman represents the transformation of the clash of extremes in the hope of merging. The opposition of cold and warm as an opportunity to be in harmony, which will give a new life and a progress to the humanity. This metaphor can be seen in the two hands touching in the middle of the composition. In one hand, Eirene holds a flower in flowing red and blue tones, touched by a hand ready to take it, as a symbol of reconciliation and tolerance. The Goddess of the Peace also carries a branch of white lily, like that of Saint-Gabriel to bless the Peace which come on earth.

freelance artist, e-mail: larisailieva7@gmail.com Larisa Ilieva lives and works in Paris, France and Sofia, Bulgaria. « I like to travel in the history of art, to inspire and enrich my artistic research. Using the same language composed by previous artists, I want to develop it and release my creation against the clichés established. The mixture of images already existing in art with contemporary sensibility is the basis on which I try to build my own territory in art. Realizing a game of different aesthetic vibrations, my conception opens to new overlays and bridges between real and abstract, decorative and picturesque. I prefer details and fragments that I make with oriental precision. At the beginning of my work my compositions emerge from the chaos of untreated pure colors, which then give birth to a harmony of new nuances and forms that are organized in unity. The black line is a very important thing in my works, because it has the function of reinforcing the intensity of the painting, which begins to shine like on the stained glass window. When I paint, I always fall into a kind of contemplation of my world of fairy creatures and sacraments. The themes of love, harmony, beauty, eternity remain close to my nature. I prefer to work with acrylic because it is very well combined with most techniques such as collage, oil, watercolor, ink, pastel. I like working with these techniques quite varied, because they are complementary and affect my sensitivity. At the moment, I am happy to use the combination of acrylic and Indian ink. This allows me to obtain in my works a different structure of the surface. Some areas seem hyperactive, others vibrate according to the light, while others overflow. »
