Scarab Collage

This is a mixed media work created by using a variety of techniques. Inspiration for this mixed media painting was drawn from ancient Egyptian artefacts and the exploration of the circle as a container. The beetle represent Kherpi, god of eternal life and the golden yellow sun disc represents the sun god Ra. Just as the beetle rolls its dung ball the scarab god rolls the sun to form sunrise and sunset. I chose rich turquoise and golds to emulate Egyptian artefacts I have seen in museums. I added an aged and distressed look and used enamel paints to create the beetle shell, the raised detailed outline is finished with gold foil to give the look of ancient Egyptian art. This painting is not a copy of an Egyptian artefact but my own interpretation which evolved as I worked on it. To see how this was made, please visit my youtube channel.
