About The Artwork

Mathieu van der Poel sprints uphill away from world road cycling champion Julian Alaphillipe in the final metres of the 2021 Strade Bianche race to win in Siena, Italy. Van der Poel and Alaphillipe were the strongest challengers in the elite group which led the finale of the one-day race over unpaved roads in Tuscany. World cyclocross champion van der Poel and Alaphillipe are among the most competitive road cyclists of the men's world racing circuit in early 2021. This is part 2 of 3 paintings of van der Poel I have completed in 2021. Watercolour and pencil on archival The Langton paper. Stretched and trimmed so slightly off-square 38 cm x 28 cm. Sold unframed; a passe-partout is recommended for mounting. Some slight working marks and pentimenti. Signed and dated lower left with artist's monogram and signature.
