About The Artwork

Another Golden One This colored pencil drawing ‘Golden Orange – 28-11-22’ is spawned by the same session as ‘Golden Shine’. Surely I had a lot of fun doing that one so why not do another? Finally, I finished my work on Melina after wearing embroidery glasses for hours. I got the resemblance a kind of right and that is why I like doing another female form in the rough. Sort of, I guess. In fact this one turned out to become a bit more elaborated than Golden Shine – 21-11-22. I definitetely wanted to get the lighting right. Contrary to the previous one the light shimmering through the limbs and breasts created more forms than a simple back. New Varieties This time my regular model took on an orange shine. I guess I just have to explore all the varieties of gold. Her skin complexion, often praised by me, allows me to do so. Due to the lamps I bought recently there is a new range of colors detectable in her skin. With all the high quality colored pencils I have collected throughout the years I can cover that range easily. Color Saturation Because of the saturated blue in the sheets at the left I felt confident to saturate all warm colors in the face and body. Actually I am surprized how strong the colors in this one became. Colored pencil tends to look a bit matt, especially when put on dark toned paper. Maybe that’s due to spraying the drawing a couple of times in between. The layers already filling up the tooth of the paper proved to stay receptive for yet another layer on top. .Less strong are the colors in the lamp. I put in a bit of orange and blue in order to connect to the female form. Accidentaly the beams of the lamp coincide with the direction of the hatched strokes. Lucky me! Colored pencil (Faber-Castell, Caran d’Ache, Prismacolor) drawing on Talens Toned paper (28.2 x 21 x 0.1 cm) Artist: Corné Akkers

1969, born in Nijmegen. My work can be seen in many countries all over the world. Corné employs a variety of styles that all have one thing in common: the ever search for the light on phenomena and all the shadows and light planes they block in. His favorites in doing so are oil paint, dry pastel and graphite pencil. He states that it’s not the form or the theme that counts but the way planes of certain tonal quality vary and block in the lights. Colours are relatively unimportant and can take on whatever scheme. It’s the tonal quality that is ever present in his work, creating the illusion of depth and mass on a flat 2d-plane. Corné combines figurative work with the search for abstraction because neither in extremo can provide the desired art statement the public expects from an artist. Besides all that, exaggeration and deviation is the standard and results in a typical use of a strong colour scheme and a hugh tonal bandwith, in order to create art that, when the canvas or paper would be torn into pieces, in essence still would be recognizable.
