On Display Drawing

I have always loved line drawings, the simplicity of them, the different sizes of lines, the layers of shapes. I never considered my line drawings to be anything special, and often I never showed them to anyone, instead would use them as a warm up for other art works. After completing this piece on a piece of printer paper earlier this year, I felt very emotional. The more I looked at the image, the more emotional I became. I felt like I had drawn myself and my insecurities without even knowing it. I felt like I had outed myself through this image, and I felt embarrassed and exposed. I have always dealt with extreme body image issues, and I felt as though through this drawing they were all there, staring back at me. I have always been very interested in the space that exists between fine art, collage, and installation art. It's important to me that those who experience my art can experience it in a way they haven't been able to do with art before. My reaction to this drawing was so visceral, that I decided I needed to make something of it. I decided to draw this image with paint pens onto the backside of a piece of glass. I then took a soft opaque black cotton, and put it behind the glass in the frame. In doing this, I created almost a mirror on the glass. Whenever someone looks at this image, they are also forced to look at themselves. I am hoping to share my experience of self reflection with those who look at this piece.
