About The Artwork

I recently went to Mission Wolf in Colorado. My son Will spent several months there as a volunteer. When I was at Mission Wolf I was given the opportunity to enter a wolf enclosure by Kent Weber the creator of the Mission Wolf. Per Kent's instruction we entered without looking at the wolves. We sat down as we were instructed and waited for a wolf greeting. The wolf greeting consists of pressing its front teeth against the front teeth of the person being greeted. Ydun pressed her teeth inside my mouth and against my teeth several times. I could feel her wild enthusiasm, love, and wildness. I looked deeply into her wild yellow eyes. All of those feeling inspired this drawing. I left four original drawings of individual wolves with Kent Weber to be sold to help support Ydun and Mission Wolf.

I work in Yosemite National Park as a tour guide. I have worked in Yosemite for over 30 years. My artwork is inextricably tied to my Yosemite Geography and my ecological message. I am a plein air painter, print maker, and photographer. I also write and illustrate my own books. I am the author of "A Brief Instruction in Christian Religion," (A translation of Faustus Socinus), "The Chronicles of the Field Mouse Timothy," (Corn,Tomato,Wheat, Cotton, Sweet Potatoes, Rice Paddy, Pond Mouse and Yosemite), "Nature Vision" (Poems), and I have illustrated the short stories of my late daughter Sandra Fontana "Cereal at Midnight." I love nature and the wilderness. I am a proponent of the global national parks movement.
