About The Artwork

"A Source" is me exploring one of the most complicated relationships we will ever have. Parents do so much for us, often giving everything they have. Sometimes, that's enough to give us a good life and other times, it falls short. There are also times (moments, weeks, years, or even lifetimes) where we feel no connection to our antecessors, either because they are not there or because the relationship is too painful to maintain. I hope you look at a source and see a little bit of your parental bonds - what it is or what it could be. Please enjoy this poem I had written for "A Source" Life and time sets us on parallel ends Our offsprings bloom right as we fade We watch and water them as flowers Words and tears we drop in prayers Shade them from our past errors Set their eyes on the right picture Beautify them with the right colors With our arms always ready to welcome Even when they Stray against our beckon These arms remain a refuge they can reckon When life comes hard to throws those lemons In the embrace of these arms lies strength For the frail feet, support for their weary backs The colors we lose to time we find In them and colors they need to bloom we provide for them For beauty of our fades lies in their bloom

Hi. My name is Lynda Charles and art helped me find myself at a point where I was asking, “what do I do with my life?” Here I am several years later, a self-taught artist drawn to creating pieces that talk about our life as human beings, and our relationship with each other. I confess that I prefer portraying the female form because I find it so much more interesting. One of my biggest goals is to make every piece I create tell an emotional story. Because of this, my media has evolved over the years from charcoal on paper to charcoal and acrylic on canvas. This is also why I prefer making large works and taking my time; I believe the smallest details, whether it’s facial expressions or shades and hues, render the most meaning. Take a minute to browse my portfolio and see if any of these stories speak to you.
