About The Artwork

This piece began when I learned how to fold the wonderful origami skull created by one of my origami pen-pals, Anita Barbour from New York State. This model inspired me to create an artwork showcasing it, and my mixed media couple was created using origami clothing along with cut-out skeletons and shoes. The figures were embellished using colored pencil on the heads, hand-made ‘sequins’ on the trousers, and a glass gem and faux beads on the female. The main background papers are of two types - one, a shimmering pearlescent paper placed immediately behind the figures, and also surrounding the entire image; and two, the brown and black art paper behind the couple’s archway. This decorative paper was embellished by cutting away many small shapes and placing other colored papers behind to peek through the cut spaces. Lastly, three-dimensional origami blossoms were added all around. Originally I stopped with the brown/black decorative paper, but when I found a great shadow-box frame to protect the art it was larger than needed, so I enlarged the artwork by adding more of the green-tone pearlescent paper. The final embellishment was the gold metallic star garland around the arch and circling the entire piece.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Born on the West coast of the US and raised in upstate New York State I now live in the American Southwest in Tucson, AZ. Making art was my first love as a child, and art continues to impact my life every day. Although I grew up in a small town I had a lot of artistic influence from my family; my father loved art & played musical instruments, one of his brothers was a professional artist, my mother always encouraged making hand-made gifts and cards, and two of my five sisters are also artists.
