Throughout my life I have been inclined to slip the bounds of supervision and head for the nearest exit door. I spend a great deal of time walking, alone by choice. I see paintings everywhere.

Even as a child I felt compelled to document the world around me. My parents had some issues with this compulsion to make art when (at the age of three) I chose to enhance the white wall behind the couch with Crayola crayons. I did not let the incident deter me from my vocational calling.

I live very close to the North Dakota/Montana border. The hinterland. My yard is on the outskirts of town, bounded by prairie on three sides. It is a refuge for bees, birds and butterflies.

COTTONTAIL RABBITS are daily visitors much of the year. They are especially fond of sunning themselves in the back yard after a summer rain.

The technique used on this work begins with white lines etched into a black surface. (The opposite of making black lines on a white surface.) I add color with great care.

What I strive for in my art is work so distinct from that of other artists that the viewer will immediately recognize it as mine. Through decades of serious work, I have developed my own techniques and my own style. A photograph of a cottontail rabbit will simply never be the same as this unique, hand-etched and painted cottontail.
