This blue seascape was painted with photographic light sensitive emulsion and was painted en plein air on a beach in Cape Town, South Africa. I use the cyanotype process in an unconventional manner by painting with it as I would when using watercolour paint. The light sensitive emulsion is exposed by the UV rays of the sun and I have to work very quickly. The painting (or blue print) is exposed in the sun and fixed by rinsing it in water. The cyanotype process was developed in the 1840's to create photographic images and my inspiration comes from Anna Atkins, a British botanist who used cyanotypes to capture plants and algae.

South Africa
I'm a multi-disciplinary artist and don't believe in limiting yourself to one art form. One day I might be making jewellery, another cyanotypes, collage or ceramics. I strive to create artwork that celebrates the natural world and find inspiration from the rural landscape and ocean in my home country. I don't always know where I'm going with my creations but I try not to overthink things and to create without limitations or fear.
