About The Artwork

Painting East Wind is my personal reflection on the world political landscape in the post-pandemic era. Sometimes I miss pandemic lockdowns when there is less interaction between countries. Deep desires in humankind of command and conquering were always there but we use them wrongly. Frozen for a while now extremely exposed. Instead of diplomacy there is violence. First ideas came in York(UK). I was there with my family. I was amazed by the North Yorkshire landscape(York Racecourse) terraced houses and streets. Here inspired by Instagram videos of conflict in Gaza Strip I brought together two experiences. There was a peaceful time however I knew that in Ukraine there was no peace and refugees were moving to Poland and Western Europe. In this painting I hope you will find some peace and disturbance at the same time as the landscape we live in is like that. I was exploring movement and capturing it. I was inspired by artist Francesca Woodman,Vanishing Act. I tried to paint some characters using a blurred effect and bring some movement in the composition. Another interesting bit of the painting are sheer curtains during the windy day. It was a very spooky experience and I found it bizarre.

(b. 1982 Czarna Woda, Poland),lived in Kingston upon Hull(UK), lives and works in Singapore. I completed MFA with distinction at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk, Poland in 2007. I create artworks predominantly in the medium of painting and sculpting. I am interested in creating artworks about life and everything that surrounds us with its pathos. Recently I investigate contemporary problems like Refugee, fatherhood and motherhood, obesity, riots, conflicts, politics, environmental and social issues(identity, racism) https://marcinbbiesek.wixsite.com/stonemadeflesh/copy-of-latest-artworks https://catholicartistconnection.com/blog/5v6x9zon1ug84v3jw689bh2qz7w12p I would like to expand / explore my series of artworks called Mapping the City of new ones, inspired by Singapore city architecture, urban planning, politics mixed with digitalised 3D sculptures influenced by social distancing, cyberspace and internet. Mapping the City was my dissertation piece and was coordinated by prof. Stanislaw Radwanski at Fine Art Academy in Gdańsk. I painted wooden, geometric units and hung them in the room, turning an idea of the city into the minimalistic concept. Some of the created abstract patterns showed urban planning of the Gdansk and political influence of that process. In 2018 I started work on series of artworks (painting/sculptures) called Bystanders, where I am revolving around the questions of crisis, struggles of everyday alienation and how we stand as a bystander, watch and read about adversities that take place in various spaces.
